Are there restrictions in presidential pardoning?

I know that if a president thinks something is wrong than they can pardon somebody from a record or a sentence. Are there restrictions to this? Can something like murder be pardoned? I know that it is very unlikely that a president would pardon something like this but is it possible?? Thank you for your imput!!
