Salary desired on job application: I put going rate!?

I dont want to do as low as possible because if they were originally planning to give me more but I write that I'll accept less, then theyll obviously pay me less than I deserve. But I dont want to make my desired salary too high and not hear back from them. So i put "going rate" in pen so i cant take it back. is that ok or a mistake?!
