Should I ask for my money?

My boyfriends brother and his pregnant girlfriend borrowed my new digital camera and broke it. They said they were going to pay for it but now my boyfriend brother is locked up in another state and needs a co-signer to get out. He really irresponsible and probably won't go to court so we refused to help him. Anyway would it be wrong to ask his girlfriend for my money if were not doing anything to get my boyfriend's brother out?
